Anthony Beninati sued the organizers of Burning Man because he said they failed to restrain him from walking into a fire. He lost the lawsuit.

Beninati's complaint stated that when he approached the bonfire, the flames were still roughly 40 feet high. He walked around the bonfire three times, each time "circl[ing] a little closer to the fire." Eventually, he walked still closer, into what was variously described as an area of "embers," "low flames," "burning remnants," and "a spot where there was fire on either side of him." Basically, he had walked inside a huge bonfire. Then, as you might have expected, he tripped on something and fell into the actual fiery part of the bonfire, burning his hands.

In his deposition, Beninati admitted he knew "fire was dangerous and caused burns" before he walked into one. He knew there was some possibility of falling into said fire. He admitted no one affiliated with the defendants asked him to walk into the fire or told him it would be safe to do so. But he testified that he did not think it would be dangerous to walk into the fire, although he knew it "was not 'absolutely safe, because there [was] a fire present.'" And, as noted, fire is hot.

so tempting to title this "fire walk with me". perhaps that would have been better.

"so tempting to title this "fire walk with me". perhaps that would have been better. "

or even the title "don't be a douche bag at burning man, and if you are compelled to be a douche bag anyway, at least do what the other douche bags do and just take acid in the desert and wear furry boots."

and maybe furry mittens, then he wouldn't have burned his wittle hands.

I think this guy is a shoe in for a Stella Award this year.

Good idea on ze douchebag. If he had only traded in ze beer helmet und instead strapped ze bulbous douchebag to his pointy head, ze fire damage could have been mitigated by ze nicey Summer's Eve waterfall.

Depends on who you talk to. I, myself, am living with the shame of having a sister who takes part. Yes - she sews and builds, and then goes to...that place.

i have yet to meet anyone reasonable who attends regularly...but i'm still open to the possibility.

cheers to your sister for actually making her own stuff.

Yeah. it's weird. If it helps any, I didn't grow up with this sister. Same dad, but we both lived with our moms. But it's still weird.
Might have to do with her having such a normal/abnormal life. She is as married as you can get to her partner, has been with her for years. But the "gay" thing is still sort of a mote in people's eyes, you know? They have a house, a yard, some cats. Have dinner with the parents. One is a nurse, one is an IT geek. Normal normal normal, except that gay thing. So maybe this is their one big OUT for the year.

Or I could just be talking out my ass, I do that sometimes.

something about working each year solely to burn up $7K at a repressive campsite made of toxic salt hemmed in by a lot of astrologers and hippies does seem to index with less-than-total awesomeness in the personality dept. Can't figger it.

I mean...my kid is spending her pennies right now to build a man-eating-plant-man cosplay for kumo...but that's totally different!

i think the bottom line is hedonist = sociopath.

the worst offender was my 'manager' at the hell on earth job. he was the type of douchebag that would get angry if he thought anyone was infringing on his illusionary 24/7 good time...anyone else's problems or hardships were like a personal offense to him...sand in the playa lube.

I have to keep my anti-bm comments to am inimum, as axj went there a few times.

back in the old days, of course!

I went somewhere between five and seven times (hard to recall exactly what all went on for the whole of certain years). This means I'm allowed to say any goddamn thing I want to say about that pack of retarded pollution-happy nose-led corporate catomites and spange-ing dipshit loser assholes. Some other crank on the BM tribe put it in couplet form, why we hate them now: "from leather and fire to fake fur and EL wire"

Sacrifice the burners to Moloch. Then it will, magically, stop sucking.

it's post apocalyptic lite now... the sheer number of rapes and law suits should clue us into that by now, though loki makes a compelling argument.
and axj is old school and burns the candle off the playa in her art car, she ain't buying no pre-packaged shit just to drive it for a second on the toxic dust, she's OG.
